October 22, 2005 Pioneer District 2005 Fall Convention Battle Creek Michigan WK Kellogg Auditorium. This is our big competition of the year with all the other Michigan/Windsor barbershop choruses, the winner gets to compete at Internationals. This was a 100 mile, two hour drive for me. I'm a little bummed I still had to work this day too so I had to leave right afterwards and didn't get to hear any other choruses. Harmony Heritage Chorus of Macomb County Michigan took 1st and will represent our Michigan/Windsor Pioneer District at Internationals July 2006. However my Great Lakes Chorus of Grand Rapids MI scored 778 and took 4th out of 10, beating out the Capitol City Chordsmen of Lansing MI by only 2 points (I think out of a possible 1200). Last year we were in 10th, so this big leap also won us Most Improved Chorus, much of the credit is due to our two new co-directors David Miller and Curt Struyk. We also won Plateau 2 Champion... whatever that is (I really don't know but I think it's a class rating of 1-3).
